The JWO Skid Steps are a combination of a rock slider and a side step for your G Wagon and serve to both get you in and out of the truck and also keep obstacles from wedging into the sides and precious underbody of the truck. Designed, Developed, and 100% Made in the USA by JWO, this is version 2.0 of our skid steps and we've made several changes from our original skid step design from 2018 to provide a more fluid look to the G Wagon and provide better protection from all angles.
The Skid Steps are the first G Wagon slider publicly available with a "kicker" or "kickout" feature which serves as a pivot point at the rear of the step to push the rear of the truck away from obstacles. This prevents damage to the rear of the truck and allows you to go around larger, trickier obstacles rather than trying to go over them.
The slider rails hang below the factory exhaust and feature cut and welded angles at the front and rear to easily slide over obstacles under the truck whether you are moving forward or back. While some offerings have a slider rail, none of them hang lower than the exhaust so your exhaust remains the lowest point of contact on the side of the truck. With our steps, the slider rail is now the lowest point so you minimize damaging your exhaust system. This design helps prevent getting hung on an obstacle and slides the obstacle towards the tires for better traction.
Another unique feature of the Skid Steps is their angled step which flares up rather than sticking straight out. This tucks the step in for a sleeker look and also serves as another path for obstacles to slide away from the truck as opposed to a step getting hung on top of one.
The Skid Steps are made of 2" steel tubing and have brackets made of 3/8" sheet steel. All edges are cut and welded to match the sharp edges of the G. The steps are finished in a textured black powder coat for optimized traction when getting in and out of the truck regardless of the environment.
The Skid Steps bolt onto the factory side step mounting points. The factory bolts can be reused for mounting. Tips of certain exhaust systems may make contact with a small section of the slider rail and make installation difficult. Option 1 would be to trim back the tips of the exhaust to maximize your protection. Option 2 would be to cut off a portion of the slider rail to eliminate the contact. For best off road performance, we would also recommend the MBRP High Clearance Exhaust System to tuck the exhaust away, further protect the exhaust, and avoid cutting the sliders.
